They were ridiculed as crackpots, badmouthed as long-haired good-for-nothings: young men and women who set off on the quest for an alternative lifestyle 40 years ago to live in harmony with nature and, above all, without the imperatives of bourgeois society. The documentary WHEN THE ECOFREAKS CAME NORTH (original title: ALS DIE ÖKOS IN DEN NORDEN KAMEN) tells of them and the frequently surprising paths their lives took.
